Is it possible to quit being a cam girl? I’ve thought long and hard about this over the years in my career as a cam girl.

When I started out working as a cam girl, the idea of quitting never crossed my mind probably because I was taught growing up that you go to school, get a job and that is what you are “suppose” to do until you are old and retired.

Well that is what my parents especially my mom kept drilling in my head. They painted this picture that because I decided to work as a sex worker that my life would be completely over and along with any choices of employment.

Now 13 years in the game I’ve seen my family change their views on what it means to work for a living and I must say I turned into a pretty decent adult with my own views on life and what it means to live it.

I am not saying I am going to quit being a cam girl at the moment but I just want to tell you I’ve thought about it more then once over the years. The time I’ve decided to quit usually ended up in one of two ways. I would get myself so excited to write up a new resume and send it out everywhere. I was pretty much only able to end up in retail customer service or some call centre position I also even once got myself a government paid internship.

I attempted going back to school a dozen of times; trying to finish my high school credits, then I went after my GED twice and finally I found a government funded program where I finally finished ONE semester of college credits.

In the 9-5 job world it is pretty natural to be in a job you completely hate and then one day get up and quit sometimes even on the first day of that job. You see it all the time, then that person has some type of panic attack and fall into deep worry of what are they going to do next and they just pick themselves up and some how figure it out.

I remember when I got my first job it was in a call centre and office gossip about me was why do I always have money. I was able to buy lunch everyday and go out every weekend. Some co-workers understood I had a work from home thing and the job was just to make sure rent was paid on time. When I was a young adult it made sense to keep as many jobs as possible under my belt so I could have a sense of security and at this time I had no debt so having money was able to happen.

Reality: I wasn’t secure in my job because I usually end up being fired or I would quit. But I knew I had being a cam girl to fall back on, it definitely secured my options of creating my own income. Now these days the idea you can be a cam girl to pay for college and enter into the job market right after graduation is a huge myth. We need to think of how we can create our own financial security by creating multiple streams of income which creates more options.

As cam girl we are considered self employed some would consider us entrepreneurs thinking about quitting is a taboo against us. So it can be difficult to think let alone admit we want to quit, but we also have this in common with many others out there.

You don’t really hear many cam girl entrepreneurs saying “I’m thinking of quitting and going to find a job.” Because we know those odds are completely against us.  We tend to stay working because of stigma from the rest of the job market.

You’re meant to be in it for the long haul right?

Working full-time as a cam girl is something these days other people only dream of as if it is something luxurious and lucrative. When those things don’t happen for us we tend to keep at it even when it could be hurting us.

So how could you possibly think about quitting?

I am going to say you CAN quit.

It’s perfectly fine to think about it too. Working as a cam girl is damn hard. If it was easy, then everyone would be doing it. Working as a cam girl entrepreneur in one of the most challenging career paths.
